Our Story
What We’re All About
We strive to make Woodside Child Care Home a fun and creative space for children to learn and grow. We decided to provide child care in the Thomas Park - Avondale neighborhood Muncie, IN where my husband's family has had a home for three generations.
I (Shelby W.) grew up spending my childhood summers with my Dad's side of the family in a child care home, as my (step) Mom has been a home child care provider for over twenty years in Delaware County. I decided to become a second generation child care provider and worked with my (step) Mom and other home child care providers for a time before deciding to open my own child care home.
Our program is designed to meet the needs of both children and families through specific goals and objectives. We focus on building off of the strengths of each child, taking advantage of every teachable moment. With lots of planned activities and free play throughout the day children can learn and grow. When the weather is nice out side we try to spend as much time out as we can sometimes including meals and snacks. We are using the Paths to Quality tm system. and accept the Child Care and Development Fund as well as the On My Way Pre-K voucher. Our curriculum is based on what children will need to succeed in the next part of their school and life journey.
**Meals- Breakfast, Lunch, and PM snack are provided.
ADA Accessibility- The driveway gate can be opened, if access is needed for a wheelchair. The walk-through gate has a step but is the preferred way to access the child care. The playground equipment is ADA-compliant. The playground ground covering is rubber tiles. A ramp can be added over the short border that surrounds the playground if needed for wheelchair access. The home was designed to be wheelchair accessible for the previous homeowners (My husband’s relatives). For the curriculum, we will be teaching American Sign Language (ASL) with some British Sign Language (BSL) and Auslan (Australian Sign Language). We are fans of the Australian children’s music groups “The Wiggles” and “Emma Memma”.

*Holidays that fall on Saturday will be observed on Friday. * Holidays that fall on Sunday will be observed on Monday.

My name is Shelby W.
I am the owner and teacher for Woodside Child Care Home. I have seven years of paid experience in the early childhood education field from two different child care homes (Precious Little Angels Child Care in Albany, IN & Play Time Child Care Home in Muncie, IN) . I have my Child Development Associates (CDA) Credential and I am in college for my associates. I have a preschool aged child who also loves to learn new things.
